Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 June 2026
MeetMe is a dating and meetup app operated by Advena ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use MeetMe on iOS, Android, or the web, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to all three apps and to this marketing website.
The data controller is Advena. You can reach us at support@advena.io.
Information we collect
We collect only what is needed to put a pin on a map and let people meet up around real places.
- Account identifier. When you sign in with Google, Google sends us your email address and display name. We use the email as the primary key for your account; we never receive or store your Google password.
- Approximate location. While you have the app open and have granted location permission, the device reports your coordinates to us. We round those coordinates to a small grid before storing them, so the position shown on the map is not pinpoint accurate. Precise location is never persisted.
- Profile. What you choose to write or pick in the in-app profile editor: display name, age, gender, looking-for, short bio, interests, and the optional venue you anchor your pin to.
- Server logs. Standard HTTP request logs (method, path, response code, IP, timestamps) retained for up to 30 days for operational debugging and abuse detection.
Information we don't collect
- Precise location. The exact coordinate your device produces is rounded before storage; we never persist it.
- Photos. v1 of MeetMe does not accept or store user-uploaded photos. The avatars shown on the map are generated locally from your initials.
- Analytics, crash reporting, or third-party advertising SDKs. None of these are present in the shipped iOS, Android, or web clients.
- Contacts, calendar, microphone, camera, health, or payment data. We do not request these permissions.
How we use your information
- To show your approximate location and profile to other users who are physically near you on the live map.
- To authenticate you on subsequent sign-ins (the email Google returns identifies your existing account).
- To operate, debug, and protect the Service (server logs).
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
Sharing with third parties
We use a small number of processors to run the Service:
- Google— identity provider for Sign in with Google. Google receives the information needed to authenticate you, governed by Google's own privacy terms.
- Contabo— the hosting provider for the Kubernetes cluster that runs the backend API, profile database, and tile cache. All data at rest is stored in encrypted volumes; traffic in transit is encrypted with TLS.
We do not share your profile or location with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party that is not strictly necessary to run the Service.
International transfers
The backend runs in the European Union. When you sign in with Google, Google may process your authentication request in other regions per its own infrastructure. Where data leaves the European Economic Area we rely on the receiving company's appropriate safeguards (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where applicable).
Data retention
- Profile and rounded-location data are kept until you delete your account.
- Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
- On account deletion, we permanently remove your profile and stored coordinate from the live database within 30 days, and from backups in the rolling backup window after that.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, email support@advena.io from the email address tied to your account. We respond within 30 days.
For users in the EEA / UK, our legal basis for processing your profile and approximate location is your consent (granted when you sign in and grant location permission) and our legitimate interest in operating the Service.
Security
All traffic between the apps and our backend is encrypted in transit with TLS. Data at rest is stored in encrypted database volumes. Authentication uses Google's OAuth flow; we never see your Google password. Access to production systems is restricted to authorised operators and audited.
Children's privacy
MeetMe is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under that age has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Cookies and tracking on this website
The MeetMe marketing website (meetme.app.advena.io) does not set tracking cookies or use third-party analytics. We may use a small number of strictly-functional cookies if you sign in to the web client.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy over time. When we make changes that materially affect how we handle your personal data, we will notify active users in-app and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
